In a major operation at Ghughumari in Kotwali police station area of Cooch Behar district, the Special Task Force (STF) seized a huge quantity of Phensidyl cough syrup worth Rs 5 crore. STF SP Indrajit Basu gave this information on Tuesday.
He said on Tuesday afternoon that based on secret information, the STF team stopped a 14-wheeler truck and searched it. During the search, 37,500 Phensidyl cough syrup were found hidden under a large load of mangoes. Two persons have been arrested in this case.
The arrested persons include Sunit Mishra (21) and Luvkush Kaul (20), both residents of Rev in Uttar Pradesh. The truck is registered in Nagaland. A case has been registered against the two arrested persons under the NDPS Act at Cooch Behar Kotwali police station.
Police said that more information about the smuggling racket will be found during the investigation. After this major success, the police have resolved to further intensify their campaign to crack down on smuggling activities. According to the police, such action will help dismantle the drug smuggling network.
